Ebony (Diospyros Crassiflora and Atropurpurea), aka black ebony. Origin: Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, Guinea. 7 to 10 metres of twisted wood. Trunk diameter: 20 to 40 cm. Density: 0.9 g/cm3. It is a black wood sometimes veined, lighter, very tight grain giving a beautiful polish and a perfect density! It is used in lutherie, tabletterie, sculpture, office articles, small furniture and marquetry nets, associated with ivory. Ebony gave its name to the profession of cabinetmaking to designate manufacturers of precious furniture even executed in other species.
